What problems does this cause?

The animals have no environment to live. And the people who lived there have to move to another place.
The main problem is when the trees are cleared that the trees are chopped down and the leaves dont fall on the ground anymore, and the leaves dont decay and no more soil to the ground by the fallen leaves that decay on the ground. And because of this nothing grows anymore.

clearings and near rivers

There is dense undergrowth near rivers and in forestclearings where sunlight is able to penetrte the canopy

Drip tips

Drip tips are being an important part of the leafs from the trees of the tropical rainforest. Without those tips the leafs would take great damage after every rainfall and that is basically every day. In a shower the leafs have to get ride of the huge amount rainwater. That is the job of the drip tips. Because they are pointy the water can flow of quickly and the leafs don´t take any damage.

Undergrowth of a tropical rainforest

To the ground of a tropical rainforest only reaches very little sunlight. This caused that only few plants are growing at the ground. These are often, slender and shade-tolerant trees. Closer to riverbanks, swamps and clearings the vegetation of the ground will increase, because these plants get more sunlight that the plants in the forest.

Liana

Lianas have been become famous through the Disney movie “Tarzan”. The rope looking like plants that hang on trees. They are plants which grow up the trees of the rainforest and when they can not get higher, they star to grow from tree to tree where then a almost naked man swings on through the jungle. These plants climb up the trees to get sunlight to produce nutrients trough photosynthesis.

The trunks and roots of a tree in the tropical rainforest

The tropical rainforest is one of the wettest palaces on earth. It rains almost at the same time each day. Animals and plants had to be true professionals to survive these extreme settings. Plants, especially tall trees have to find a way to be staple. The massive rainfalls caused a very thin layer of soil which makes is hard for those tall trees to be stable. Like always has the nature found a way to make it possible for tree to set there. The nature gave the trees wide trunks and roots to resist the unstable ground. Also, the roots of the trees cannot go far into the ground to get enough soil to grow. That's why the roots cover a greater are than the thickness of the steam to get enough soil.

What happens when a forest is cleared?

The cycle after an area has been cleared
  • Fewer leaves
  • Less humus
  • Few nutrients added to soil.
  • Others are leached downwards and are lost to the plants
  • Soil becomes less fertile
  • Poorer quality vegetation and soil erosion.

What is humus?

Organic material found in oil derived from the decomposition of vegetation, dead organisms and animal excretion. Humus is the organic part of the soil formed by the decomposing action of soil micro-organisms (bacteria and fungi) that break down animal and vegetable material.

Rainforest Trees

The trees in the rainforest are very tall and their leaves and branches are grouped at the top of the tree to catch enough sunlight to grow and photosythesize.

Where are the tropical rainforests?

They are in the countries located near the equator where the climate is warm, stable and able to contain and support life.

What is the climate like in Tropical Rainforests?

Tropical Rainforest are typically very humid, warm and rainy. The temperature ranges from 21°C to 45°C and 125 to 660 cm of rainfall yearly.

Vegitation Layers in a Tropical Rainforest

The four layers of the tropical rainforest are emergent layer, main canopy, under canopy and shrub layer/forest floor.
Each layer has a different type of wildlife.
The forest floor is occupied by bugs, centipedes, beetles, earthwormspeccaries, wild pigs, wild boars, tapirs, fungi and other animals and ground plants like shrubs, but because of the dark the plants struggle to survive.
The understory layer is occupied by jaguars, red-eyed tree frogs and leopards. There are also a lot of bugs in the understory.
The canopy has snakes, toucans,  tree frogs, ect. Because of the large range of food there are a lot of animals in this layer.
The emergent layer has bats, birds, butterflies, and monkeys. There are tall trees too.
